Homemade Pumpkin Butter

I was trying to think of yummy treats to add into the baskets that I am creating for a local marketplace. These baskets are Thanksgiving hostess baskets and I wanted to have a mix of cool, fun gifts and yummy homemade gifts.

I also wanted to make sure that everything that goes into these baskets can be shelf stable and perfect for Fall. So, I decide pumpkin butter was perfect for one of the homemade treats. I love unexpectedly yummy things like this.

Fall “Butters”

There is no actual butter in Pumpkin butter or Apple butter for that matter. These are increcible spreads that you can enjoy on everything from toasts to pastries.

Pumpkin butter has a beautiful spiced flavor and pumpkin tang. Along with the apple cider hint that just sneaks it’s way into this particular recipe.

Chef’s Tip

Make sure that you cook most of the moisture,(liquid) out of the pumpkin butter. That will help give a really nice smooth consistency as well as keeping it for longer. You do not need to refrigerate this, but you can if you prefer it cold.

You can enjoy this anytime you want a Fall flavor fix. Just spread it on some nicely toasted brioche or into a flaky pastry crust.

Homemade Pumpkin Butter

This is a super simple recipe with tons of flavor. Any time you need your Fall fix, just spread this on some thick toasted brioche or in some pastry dough.

Ingredients

  • Ingredients
  • 1-15 oz can pumpkin puree not pumpkin pie filling
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/2 cup fresh apple cider
  • pinch of kosher salt

Instructions

  • Combine all the ingredients into a small sauce pan. Over low heat let the mixture cook for about 25-30 minutes or until the liquid has evaporated. The mixture will be smooth and spreadable. Let it cool and you can hole in a container for up to 1 month. This makes the perfect gift as well.
