Happy Cinco de Mayo!! I think that everyone knows that Margaritas are the go to cocktail for Cinco de Mayo. Yet, in our house, we like a different drink. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love a Margarita just as much as the next gal. I love a good Margarita, I love a flavored Margarita too. There are also some local restaurants that are even making frozen Margaritas to go! Who doesn’t want a Margarita to go! There is definitely a place for them and especially today! Yet, I am staying home and making our own Cinco de Mayo celebration at home. I love a slightly less popular Mexican tequila drink. It is awesome and understated. I put a little Happy Chef twist on it and it is soooooo delicious!
The drink I am talking about is called a Paloma. It is traditionally made with grapefruit juice and tequila. Which is a really great pairing. Yet, I have a twist that is simple and makes a really great cocktail. I use grapefruit sparkling water with a kick and tart cherry juice. I love the chance to add tart cherry juice to any cocktail. I always have tart cherry juice around and it is great in cocktails. Plus the combo of the tart cherry juice and the grapefruit sparkling soda is amazing!
I hope you all have any awesome Cinco de Mayo celebration at home this year whether it is delivered in, made with take out or made from scratch… add in this amazing cocktail and you are good to go! Cheers everyone!
Cherry Paloma
Ingredients
- 3 oz tequila blanco
- 2 oz tart cherry juice
- lime wedges to rim the glass and for garnish
- 1 can grapefruit hard sparkling water I use White Claw
- sugar to rim the glass
Instructions
- Traditionally a Paloma is served in a rocks glass. So, I use that for these as well. Run a lime wedge around the edge of each glass and rim with sugar.
- Fill the glass half to three quarters full with ice. Divide the ingredients into the two glasses. Pour the tequila over the ice. Top with the cherry juice and then with the grapefruit hard sparkling water. Garnish with a lime wedge and ENJOY!
