I love this quick and easy dessert dip. Not only because it comes together quickly and easily with only a couple of ingredients, but because it travels well, too!
We all know how we have gotten so excited to make something. We love it and want all of our friends to try it. SO, we make it for the next event we are going to and then we cannot figure out how we are going to get it there in one piece or by the time it does get there it needs to be reheated or its a mess… that is why I love to bring this simple dip. Pack it up in an air tight container and grab a box of waffle cones to bring with you. Bring a dish or even use a paper plate with your air tight container. Boom, an awesome dessert that everyone will rave about that was simple and easy to make and transport!
Why do dessert dips?
Dessert dips are perfect for parties. They make it simple and easy to get a sweet bite out at the end of the meal or buffet. These are especially perfect for Super Bowl parties or parties where finger foods rule.
This dip in particular is a great crowd pleaser because it requires little to no extra love. It can be in the fridge until it is time to serve it and then it can be out for quite a while without having to worry about it.
This dip is also super customizable. So, you can do nuts, no nuts. Try regular chocolate chips or mini. If you want, you can do cannoli shells crunched up to dip or waffle cones. You can add in some orange or lemon zest for an extra pop. You can really make this your own.
What do I need for this dip?
- ricotta cheese– the ricotta you want for this can be regular or dolci or even homemade. Just make sure it is drained or you will get a watery dip
- mascarpone cheese or cream cheese– you really can use either one here. The mascarpone will give you a little smoother texture and that true cannoli taste. Yet, I do love the tanginess that cream cheese will add.
- powdered sugar-Â this is to sweeten the dip and if you sift it first you won’t get any lumps and you will have a nice smooth dip
- vanilla-Â I love using vanilla bean paste in here to see those little specks of vanilla. You can also use vanilla extract, no worries
- chocolate chips– I prefer mini chips in here just because I feel like they cover more space, but you can use whatever you like
- orange zest- I use a little orange zest in my dip to help brighten it up and give it that… hmm…that’s good!
Chef’s Tips-
When you are making any dip to bring to a party, make sure that you think about the transportation factor ahead of time. You can get some really quick air tight containers that will double as the bowl. Grab a nice melamine or plastic tray that if it gets left there you are not upset. Lastly, make sure you think about this dipping and bring whatever is needed to dip into your dip!
For this cannoli dip I think you put waffle cones, strawberries and even piroline cookies out for dipping in here. Enjoy!
