New Year’s Day Brunch

I think Brunch is so fun and what a wonderful idea for the day after New Year’s Eve when most people are tired and probably “hurting” a little from the night before! This is a great way to continue the holiday a little more while also keeping things super casual, yet delicious. Plus at Brunch, it is sort of anything goes. There is a little breakfast, a little lunch, definitely yummy cocktails… what is not to love!?!

I will be hosting a New Year’s Day Brunch this year and after sooooo many years of doing brunches at restaurants, I am super excite to host this brunch at home. All of the restaurant brunches we did were always way over the top with omelet and waffle stations and seafood stations and carving stations and endless mimosas. I really wanted this at home version to have all of these elements, but in a casual, yet elegant way. So, we will have eggs, we will have seafood, we will have a carved meat of some kind and we will for sure have a yummy, fancy, fun cocktail!! All in the casual setting of our toy-filled home!

The one thing you will have want to do for this type of party for sure it prep ahead!!! Since this party is not only much earlier in the day than a dinner party AND the day after New Year’s Eve, you will not want to have to be up at the crack of dawn making your dishes. So, keep that in mind when picking dishes to serve. I love items like bread puddings, french toast casseroles and even baked egg dishes for prepping ahead. However, you can also prepare items that are very elegant and simple and do the prep work ahead. You can… yes!!! That is exactly what we do in restaurants!! We prep all of our “mise en place” this is a restaurant term for “everything in its place”. Which means we take all of our ingredients and cut them and mix them and chop them ahead so that when it comes down to the event or “service” we are ready to go. If you do this at home, you can put out a restaurant quality meal with little effort.

So, I will post all the recipes and photos I make for my New Year’s Day brunch, but hopefully with these tips and tricks you will feel inspired to doyour own brunch for the New Year holiday. And do not forget the fun cocktail… here is a great one to get the year started off right!!
