Homemade Pumkpin Spice

This has been the craze for the past few years thanks to the Starbuck’s Pumpkin Spiced latte. Now, I am not a big pumpkin fan, but I am a big pumpkin spice fan. As there is actually no pumpkin in it at all! It is just the spices that you would find in say pumpkin pie or pumpkin muffins. It is a great blend of spices and super simple to make.

What can you put Pumpkin Spice in besides lattes?

Pumpkin spice is great for making all of the following desserts and even drinks. It is not just for lattes, however, it is pretty good in them too!

  • Lattes or into your coffee grounds before brewing
  • Mixed into whipped cream for Fall desserts of any kind
  • Pancake or waffle batter
  • Mixed into pumpkin pies or muffins
  • Cupcakes or frosting

If you are looking for some savory uses for pumpkin spice, here are a few.

  • Into pumpkin ravioli filling
  • Mixed into pasta dough for a great Fall flavor profile
  • Season popcorn with it
  • Butternut squash soup

You can even make a great liqueur with this spice blend or mix into your apple cider.

Chef’s Tip

I love making my own spice blends for many reasons. One of the main reasons is that most people do not realize how much other junk is actually going into already ground spices and herbs. Things you could not believe. With that said, it is great to invest in a small spice grinder and buy whole spices that you can toast and grind yourself.

This is actually much more cost effect. As well as you can blend the spices together that you want. Lastly, you know exactly what is being ground into your spices.

Homemade Pumpkin Spice

I like to grind all of my own spices for this and other spice blends. It is very simple to do as well as much more cost effective. You can make a nice big batch of this and it will last you a good amount of time. You can also gift it in cute jars.
