Avocado Hummus
I have always loved hummus. I have also always loved avocado. Guacamole and hummus separately are always my go to snack choices. So, why not put them together?
The creaminess of the lusciousness of the avocado with the creaminess of the pureed chickpeas is such a perfect match. The acid from the lime cuts through perfectly and the hint of cumin makes you go, wait… what is that? I love it!
What do you need to make avocado hummus?
You only need a few ingredients, that if you are anything like me, you probably usually already have on hand.
Avocados-Kind of essential in avocado hummus
Canned chick peas-You can also use cooked chick peas from dried, if you have the time. Just save a little bot of the cooking liquid
Garlic-I use one clove if they are large or two if they are smaller
Lime- fresh squeezed lime juice
Tahini-classic hummus ingredient. This will give you that richness from the sesame
Cumin- This is the secret weapon in this hummus. It gives that… hmm… what is that goodness
Kosher salt- I cannot say it enough, the only salt in my kitchen
Freshly Cracked Black pepper- It just tastes better
Garnishes- Olive oil and cilantro(optional)

Chef’s tips-
There is not too much to talk about here. This is pretty much a dump and go recipe. If you are using canned chick peas, drain them but don’t rinse them. You still want a little bit of the liquid for this recipe. Make sure that your lime gives you enough juice, if you feel like it is not a juicy lime, add one more. Also, season lightly until the end and then check again for seasoning.
The color may vary depending on the color of the avocado you have. Make a little swish in the top of the hummus so that you can drizzle the olive oil and garnish with some chopped cilantro for added flavor.

Avocado Hummus
Ingredients
- 1 avocado
- 1 can chick peas drained, not rinsed
- 1 clove garlic peeled
- 1/4 cup tahini
- 1 lime juiced
- 1/8 cumin
- Kosher salt
- Freshly Cracked Black Pepper
- Olive oil and chopped cilantro garnish
Instructions
- Put the avocado, chick peas, garlic, tahini, lime juice and cumin in the bowl of a food processor. Season lightly with salt and pepper. Blend together until you achieve a smooth consistency. If you notice that it is too chunky or too thick, you can add about 1-2 teaspoons of olive oil and continue to puree. Check for seasoning and add more if needed.
- Spread into a serving bowl and make an indented swish on the top. Drizzle with olive oil and chopped cilantro. Serve with pita chips, tortilla chips or fresh veggies of your choice. This also makes a great spread for sandwiches. ENJOY!
